Gas Girls declared as League Champions!

Bristol Rovers Women's have been declared as Champions of the Gloucestershire County Women's Football League.

The 'Gas Girls' picked up their first title since the club was relaunched in 2019, after a disruptive two seasons, due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

The squad were due to face Abbeymead Rovers on Sunday afternoon where a win would clinch the title, however the visitors were forced to pull out of the match as they were unable to fulfil a full squad. With a guaranteed three points in the bag, it was confirmed that The Gas were declared as Champions!

First-Team Manager, Nathan Hallett-Young said, "It's not the way we wanted to win it, however it doesn't take away this achievement from us. After all of the hard work that everyone has put in throughout the season, we deserve to celebrate!"

Bristol Rovers Women's Captain, Natalie Coles, said "It's been a challenging 12 months for everyone but the girls have been awesome this season. It's a pleasure to play with a great group of girls and it's an honour to Captain Bristol Rovers Women's to our first title as a Club."

Gas Girls Co-Founder and Club Secretary, Matthew Davies, said "I am incredibly proud of every single one of our players for their commitment and passion to wear the blue and white quarters. They fully deserve to celebrate this fantastic achievement after a tumultuous two seasons for everyone. We couldn't have achieved this if it wasn't for our amazing volunteer staff, our sponsors, partners and our fans. We can't thank you enough for your messages and your support!"

Despite the action on the pitch being halted on two occasions throughout the 2020/21 season, Bristol Rovers Women's have played an integral part in the community, helping the Community Trust with the delivery of the 'Tackling Loneliness' project. The Club has also been recognised for their partnership with Bristol Pride and the special edition away shirt that sits proudly in the National Football Museum.

Bristol Rovers Women's will now be awaiting further news from the FA regarding their application for promotion into Tier 6 of the Women's Football Pyramid.
