Bristol Rovers Women's midfielder Jamie-Leigh Worlock will be taking on a testing, running challenge for a charity that's close to her heart. Worlock is already a few days into her fundraising and we caught up with her to find out more about the challenge and what her chosen charity 'Sands UK' is all about.
Jamie-Leigh, could you tell us a bit more about this physically demanding challenge that you're taking on this Month?
For the challenge I will be running to raise money for Sands UK and I will be running a total of 50 miles over the month and despite being a fairly active runner this challenge will be demanding due to the extra distance and time limit. This challenge will not only test me physically but mentally as well.
You're chosen charity of choice is Sands UK. Could you tell us a bit more about what they do?
Sands is a Stillbirth & Neonatal Death charity. Sands support anyone affected with baby loss and work with health professionals to help the parents and families who have experienced baby loss with the best possible care.
This is a charity that means a lot to you and you're family personally. Why have you decided to run for Sands UK?
I have decided to do this run for Sands UK because we sadly lost my baby sister shortly after she was born back in 2008. On the 29th March she would’ve been 13 years old. I thought as it would’ve been a special birthday and we can’t celebrate it with Olivia-Angel, I would do something special in her memory. I just want to show her that we all still miss her very much and she will never be forgotten.
How can people get involved, support you and donate?
People can support and get involved by either liking and sharing my GoFundMe page and by following my journey through my social media. Any donations would be really appreciated however little or big they are.
