Bristol Rovers Women’s secured back-to-back League Titles on Sunday after a 4-0 victory against Weston Mendip Ladies.
The ‘Gas Girls’ headed into the match knowing that a just a single point to mathematically confirm them as champions. On a wet and blustery afternoon at Lockleaze Sports Centre, Rovers initially struggled with the conditions and failed to convert their chances, resulting in a stalemate at the break.
The second half saw a significant improvement and the ‘Gas Girls’ started to pile on the pressure. Shortly after the start of the second-half, Laura Curnock fired Rovers in front with a sublime strike into the bottom corner and relieving the tension slightly. Top scorer Zoe Fielden-Stewart doubled their lead by slotting home from a corner. With the winds in their sails the ‘Gas Girls’ hit their stride with Curnock grabbing her second with a brilliant half-volley. Curnock rounded off the match and secured her hat-trick with another great finish just inside the box.
At the full-time whistle, celebrations were in full swing as the ‘Gas Girls’ confirmed back-to-back League Titles.
First-Team Manager, Nathan Hallett-Young said “I’m so proud of this team. It’s been an unbelievable effort from all of the players, volunteer staff and everyone else who has contributed to our success. It’s a great achievement for the club and I can’t wait to see how the squad progresses in the seasons to come.”

The girls have encapsulated what it really means to be a Bristol Rovers player, both on and off the pitch. Despite their other commitments, they embrace our values and it’s been a joy to see them grow this season. Club Captain, Natalie Coles said, “I’m so proud of every single player. Everyone has worked so hard all season and I ‘d like to thank the girls and team behind the scenes for all of their efforts. The supporters have been incredible this season and I can’t thank them enough for their support! UTGG!”
Despite their 100% record during their first season in the Gloucestershire County League, the division was declared null & void due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. The following season saw Bristol Rovers Women’s declared as Champions at the second attempt and then gained promotion to the South West Regional League (Northern Division). The ‘Gas Girls; will now be heading to the South West Regional Premier Division, the 5th tier of the pyramid for the 2022/23 season.
