Bristol Rovers Women's recorded their first defeat of the season last Sunday against Forest Green Rovers, in what was a competitive and hard fought match at Lockleaze Sports Centre.
On the 5th minute, 'Gas Girls' Goalkeeper George Hunt sadly left the field after sustaining a broken collarbone. Everyone at Bristol Rovers would like to wish George a very speedy recovery!
Centre-Back Anna Hubble was then required to go in goals for the duration of the match.
The visitors took the lead midway through the first-half with a scrappy goal by Charlie Rowlands, with the 'Gas Girls' continuing to push for the breakthrough.
In the second-half, Bristol Rovers enjoyed more possession but were finding it more difficult to find that important equaliser. Just after the hour mark, a delicious cross by Annys Turners was guided in by Zoe Fielden-Stewart to earn a deserved equaliser for the 'Gas Girls'.
10 minutes later, the visitors found themselves with an opportunity to put themselves back in front with a powerful shot which was saved and parried by stand-in Goalkeeper Anna Hubble. Unfortunately for the 'Gas Girls' Rowlands was the quickest to react and netted the winner and the three points for Forest Green.
Despite the defeat, the 'Gas Girls' can take encouragement by the performance from a newly promoted squad and having to adapt to the early injury to goalkeeper, George Hunt. Rovers remain in positive spirits as they prepare Sunday's trip to Warminster Town.
