Community | ‘Gas Girls’/Bristol Pride shirt inducted into the National Football Museum

The Bristol Rovers Women’s, special edition away shirt in partnership with Bristol Pride is now a part of the National Football Museum collection.

When the museum judged the Top 25 English league kits for 2020/21, the Bristol Rovers Women’s away shirt came in 9th place, beating the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool. It was also voted as the best bespoke women’s away shirt of the season. The shirt is also featured on their website as their 'Object of the Week'

The curators at the National Football Museum said “The shirt is so vibrant and eye-catching. The museum loved everything from the Gas Girls’ club crest which features a female pirate to the link-up with Bristol Pride. This is a progressive women’s team who want to establish their own identity. The partnership with Bristol Pride is a great fit. Bristol Rovers Women spread the message of inclusion, diversity and community and Bristol Pride works towards equal rights and building a self-accepting and self-affirming community through school education, consultation, and the city’s Pride Festival which attracts 40,000 visitors.”

Bristol Rovers Women’s FC Club Secretary, Matthew Davies said, “It’s a huge honour for our shirt to be recognised by the National Football Museum in Manchester. Promoting community is a key area within our club culture and to know that this shirt has been received so well by fans, people within the football industry and those from the LGBTQ+ community, is amazing to hear. We’re looking forward to working with Bristol Pride on future projects and we will continue to strive to tackle homophobia and discrimination of any form.”
